So I woke up this morning to the water level in my biocube low from evaporation and my return pump spitting out bubbles. I'm wanting to add some kind of ATO system. What's a good system for a tight budget and has anyone placed an ATO system on a biocube before? I'm going to be gone for a week or so around X-mas and don't want to burn out a pump. There's room in the third chamber for the sensors so I'm thinking it would be pretty easy to install one. My cube is now open top since getting a new T5 fixture so that's why I'm having the evap issues all of a sudden.

    What is your budget?
A Tunze would work in that tight space but they are expensive... a cheap float switch will probably be too large. :-/

If possible, I would like to get the entire system including pump for under $100.

I will look around. In my experience the tiny ones are expensive. What dimensions are we working with?

    The section has about a 5.75" x 3.75" footprint.

If it will be cheaper to buy all of the parts individually, sensors, cables, controller, etc. I can put it all together, I'm pretty good with electronics.

I know this is outside your budget, but wanted to point them out. I use both and find them both excellent.

I use this one to keep my DT level (I do not have a sump)

TUNZE Osmolator Universal 3155 - English

It is awesome. And about $200 . It includes the pump.

I use this one to keep my reservoir for my ATO filled. But if I had a sump, I could use this there in stead of the Tunze unit above in my DT.

Level-Loc auto top off unit for RO systems - English

It works great and is about $100. It does not have a pump. For my purposes, my RO/DI unit works as the pump.
