Reef ready overflow kit confusion

    I'm doing a 90 gallon and there's a shield on the over flow grate but two slits stay open matter what level I put it at. If you need a better idea I have a picture in show your tank labeled 90g build.

    I'm not 100% sure what you are asking, but I will do my best- If you mean the slots at the bottom/ middle of the black overflow cover, I don't believe there is an issue as the whole purpose is to just block viewing of the actual overflow, since it is clear and could look unsightly.

    I believe they put those holes to just keep some water flow moving in between the cover and glass overflow, so it doesn't trap waste. They shouldn't affect the function of the overflow, as the glass should be sealed to force the water over the top.

    If you don't want them you could just fill them with silicone, but my guess is that you will then create a trap for detritus.
