With any HOB overflow, there could be failures, right?
    Have you met Mr. Murphy?

I've always been confident that my design and latest build of my high flowing DIY HOB overflow would not fail.
    Did I mention Mr. Murphy?

If it failed, my style of DIY sump does not have a smaller compartment for the Return pump resevoir like most. Mine has the potential of putting 20+ gallons into my DT if my overflow failed.

Since putting my DIY phosguard reactor in my sump as well, it was limiting a compartment system to limit my return pumps volume in a overflow failure.

Well, I've always slept well, and now, even better.

I installed a really nice, well built
High water level shut off switch on the return pump only.
For those of you with a controller, a sensor can be added to do the same thing. I have no controller, yet anyways.

I even built a simple splash guard from a piece of plastic tubing because I have a Huge Royal Blue Tang that likes to play and flip his tail and splash water out the top every day.
    Worked great on every test!

After researching, this I what I got:

PlumbingSupply.com - emergency high water shutoff switch with alarm

Power outs are never, and never will be a problem with my sump capacity.
Now overflow failures will never be either!
** BTW- My DIY HOB overflow sytem-has NEVER failed!

But did I mention the law and that guy named Murphy?

    Well,

If anyone risks overflowing their DT, this product is simple, reliable, and worth the money.

    Thanks for looking

It looks like you have put a lot of time and thought into this, I honestly hope it works for you.
Speaking for myself, I've found in my experiences when I use the words ALWAYS,NEVER,FOREVER,& PERMANENT that the next task was trying to save face while simultaneously removing my foot from my mouth. lol

    I agree.

My DIY HOB HI flow overflow has not failed.

But out of redundancy, I purchased this 'fail-safe' cut off switch, for if it ever does if I have an overflow failure.

My sump has the reserve to easily handle a power out.

I frequently (3-4 x a week), cut the power myself during feedings.

Of the sensor hanging over the DT waterline? Did you see the link?
The sensor is over the waterline, whereas the water hits the sensor and cuts the power before an overflow.

Wow, just re-read my post when forwarding it to another thread today.
It's been about 8 months since the last post.

I'm proud to say, that it's working great!

A few weeks ago, my overflow return was getting limitied by some media bags with GAC in them I had in the top of the overflow, after a few weeks of detritus buildup.
My DT level slowly rose (overflow was still flowing, but not enough) and tripped the sensor and shut down my return pump before even a drop of water overflowed!!

One of the best $70 I'll ever spend!

As in the bean animal style, or three seperate overflows?
Really doesn't matter, this 'overflow insurance device' is for people where drilling a currently running established DT is NOT an option, and they/me are relying on a high flow, siphon style Overflow.

    Thanks
