Angry Aiptasia Infestation

Yep, what started off as one recalcitrant anemone has developed into scores of recalcitrant anemonies, and I just can't kill 'em. The Elimi-Aiptas (which I believe is essentially pickling lime) I got failed, and the boiling water injections I tried earlier today did no better. Even the ones I sucessfully injected did not die. They haven't stung any of my coral (since I don't have many) but needless to say I don't really want to do anything else to the tank until they are taken care of. So do I just keep on trying like I've been trying for months, get a butterflyfish or a shrimp that may or may not eat the aiptasia as well as my meager polyp colonies, or chuck the 300 dollars' worth of live rock and go DIY?

Peppermint shrimp work very well in eliminating Aiptasia from my experience.

Peppermint shrimp will work pretty good at ridding and keeping under control the smaller Aiptasia Anemone's. However, I would use a product called Joe's Juice(excellent for killing Mojano and Aiptasia anemone's). A paste of kalkwasser and water works awesome as well as you inject the concoction into the mouth of the anemone with a syringe.

If interested I can give you a recipe for My juice/paste just P/M me works better then many other juices costing a 1,000% more and easy to make.. Takes about 2 minuets. to make a batch.. if you can get to them to feed them the stuff they will die before you can almost get your hands out of the water , All you need is a syringe that is used with some test kits

anemones are a recurring problem in my area I think the lfs are infested. IMHO
the Joe's juice or similar calcium based remedy works best in conjunction with peppermint shrimp.

My best results were mixing Joe's juice with the pickeling lime , a flashlight for cracks and crevices and alot of patience -combined that with the peppermint shrimp to clean out the babies and you've got it made

With Joe's Juice, do you have to inject them or just feed it to them? Many of them just retract when I try to poke 'em.

I was looking at my tank yesterday and low and behold I found 1 small colony of 3 aiptasias- I used Chem-Marin's STOP AIPTASIA ( given to me by a friend) on them last night and this morning those rascals were dead!

I use a plastic syringe I picked up at my local grocery store - move up to them slowly and with light pressure coat those rascals good before they know whats going on!
