HELP, I started a thread yestarday about my porcupine puffer. She has been lathargic, not swimming, and a discoloration spreading on her skin. She has been puffed up 3+ hours today, and shows no sign of de puffing. I think euthanasia is the best bet at this point. Ive tried taunting her to deflate, usually because she deflates in a matter of seconds. Can someone please explain to me the best way to euthanise* a PUFFED puffer fish..

I'd be more curious if there was anything you could do to save the poor guy first...

You need to burp her. Point her mouth towards the surface of the water and GENTLY rub her belly.

Run some carbon because they release toxins when they puff. (Even better, put new carbon in AND do a water change).

Post some pictures afterwards so we can see what the skin looks like.

:-/ Sorry for the loss...I would do a lot of reading and question asking to find out the potential cause so it could be avoided (if it's even possible).

Puffing in an enclosed system like our aquariums is bad. That's why it's important to burp them quickly, change the carbon, and hopefully do a small water change.

I'm sorry for your loss. Puffers are the "puppy dogs" of the fish world and it's hard to lose them.
