yellow tang in a 55 gallon

i got a fire goby, royal gramma,yellow tailed damsel,and a clown. i want just one bigger show fish. i really want a yellow tang. my lfs said it would be ok but nothing smaller than a 55 for a tang. anyone had luck keeping one in a 55?

 

persoanl opinion, 55 would be too small. they need good swimming room. what about a colorful dwarf angel?

 

is the 55 a 4ft tank? lenght of tank is more important than volume for swimming space reasons
if so I had one in a 4ft x 18 x 20 for a while - got it small and it was OK. but eventually there came a time when I felt it needed more space.
Yellow tangs IME are one of the more hardy tang species and are less prone to stress related parasitic outbreaks , so are often more likely to be OK in less than optimum tank sizes

a better choice than a regal or Hippo tang for this very reason IME

yes my 55 is a 4 foot tank.

 

I've had a yellow and a regal tang before in my 4' 55g tank in the past. no problems.. just make sure you have available free-area for them to swim back and forth..

 

well his is a 55 gallon, that is a 74 gallon. that's a lot more space for a tang then in a 55 gallon.
