as the title reads r they livable? the tang isnt munch bigger but its chasing the angelfish :( . id rather get rid of tang if i had to but if they will live together then thats different. i had brought a striped benny and my neon dottyback took charge. that change when i put the these 2 fish in. was told it would work?

How many other fish do you have?

    How big is your tank?

Do you have a lot of rockwork, or minimal aquascape?

Did you get the fish at the same time?

How long have you had them?

A few suggestions: If they're new, they probably need to establish territories... if there is a lot of room and lots of rockwork, they will probably work this out eventually... If you got the fish at different times, you may want to rearrange the rockwork so that one fish will have to re-establish it's territory... Make sure they're well fed, and if they'll eat nori, try to give them two nori clips so they don't fight over that.

Ctenochaetus Tangs IME and others I've known have not always gotten along with angelfish. I think its more due to the similarities they both have in body shape....

If they are new they are probably establishing their territories.

+1 to above... I happen to have a False Lemonpeel Angel and a Powder Blue Tang...

Their body shape could be considered 'similar' however, I can tell you that they both definitely compete for a major part of their diet: algae. It's pretty well known that most of the dwarf angelfish species feed on a primary diet of algae and microcustaceans.... and we know tangs love algae.

I had my Yellow angel for around 1.5 years before I got my Powder Blue Tang. Needless to say the angel was not too pleased with the Tang's existence... but the Tang has been a very healthy fish, and is growing in size, and will soon be larger than the angel. The Tang can defend himself and get out of the way of the angel, and the angel has backed off considerably...

It's funny to watch them "fight" over the nori clip, they act like my dogs do when one has a toy and the other one doesn't... they don't hurt each other, but they definitely make it known to each other that "that's their nori". hahaha... sometimes I put in two nori clips, but the funny thing is, again like my dogs, whichever clip one has, the other one wants... lol.

I think another thing that helps is having other somewhat more peaceful fish to level the aggression between two dominant fish... of course, you'll need the tank space, water volume, and good amounts of rockwork for this to be possible, though.

sorry been away. i have a 55g with 115lbs lr lots of place to hide and swim through. i got both at same time and the tang is alttile bigger then the angle. i have 7 fish altogether angle and tang the biggest.at the moment my tank getting filled with algae so theres will be food? what are nori clips? i bought freeze dried algae to toss in there. i put algae in the next day and no one was eating it so i havent tried again. at the moment they are sorta getting along. the tang chases the angel alittle bit but not so much. i dont have but 5 small snails in the tank. it seemed like the algae came out from no where and planing afew more small and larger to clean the tank. im also here shortly going to be changing my rockscape around so i can clean the glass better.

nori is the sheet of seawead commonly used to wrap sushi:

Just make sure you feed plain nori, with no salt, soy, or oils added to it.

Use a veggie clip, like this one to hold the nori for the fish:

Or, you can rubberband the nori around a piece of rock and drop it in... this works better for tangs that are afraid of the clip... mine's not afraid of the clip, they love it!
