i was just at the lfs and saw one of these guys, there cute! i read on live aquaria that they get 7 inches and need 70 gallons? im guessing its because of the activity level but a 75 and a 55 are the same length, so what the big difference? turn around room? or could it work?

i guess what im asking is, could this go in my 55 gallon?

It will work in a 55, but it needs to be lightly stocked otherwise. Make sure your rockwork gives it plenty of room to hide when full size.

A 55 barely enough to house a tang. Keep a good eye on him.

A tomini is a less aggressive version and stays the same size.

make sure your tank has enough film algae to support it!

Detritus too. Kole tangs are detritovore/herbivores, in that order.

"Superb selections for the reef aquarium, the members of the genus Ctenochaetus ("ten-oh-key-tus") are commonly called the Bristle-mouth Tangs. This is a genus whose members are attractively shaped, colorfully marked, and behaviorally interesting … and, they are great algae eaters. In fact, their mouths are so well-defined for such a task that Bristle-mouth Tangs can actually remove diatoms! All six Ctenochaetus species do well in captivity given the selection of initially healthy specimens and the provision of algae and detritus in an older, established, not-too-clean system, and especially one with live rock. Here are some pertinent notes regarding the three species of Ctenochaetus most frequently offered in the trade:"

    and

"I would try these, but this fish is mostly detrivorous, and will get much of it’s nourishment from your system as a whole, if you have plenty live rock and sand for it to go over."

Yes, sometimes B tooth tangs do not eat prepared foods. So they tank can't be sano clean.

My kole was happy in the 90g, but ti is happier in the 200g.

Be careful though, koles are one of the meaner tangs IME.

I would suggest a tomini tang (when the tank is old enough)for a 55g because they are smaller and less aggro.

Should work fine(as mentioned already above), as for food wise Took my chevron a few months to start eating prepared food besides mysis and brine. He now mows away on nori and grazes all day long. :)
