hey i was getting ready to order some corals online and quite a few websites have the "What You See Is What You Get" and some dont. I am ordering some zoanthids. What is the best deal? And how "much" is "too much" per head for nice zoas? (in your opinion)

The best deal would be for free or trade, but really, I have paid quite a bit for nice zoas. A while back I paid about $15 per polyp for "Armor of God" zoas, I've also gotten some "fake" Purple Hornets for free. Basically, some people will say it's rediculous to pay X amount for a coral, but if that's the coral you want then go for it. Some corals are just more than others. However, knowing what i know today, and realizing you want some quantitative advice, I would say no more than $5-$10 a polyp. BTW, what website are you ordering from?

i really like the zoas at Reef Hot Spot and Wet Thumb Frags. Reef Hot Spot has fish and inverts too, so i was thinking of going with them. I have checked out Coral Fanatics and they do have really good prices but the shipping is kinda expensive and they dont have a over xxx amount and get free overnight shipping like others do?

I would always do the WYSIWYG if you have the option, there are lots of places that will basically put a coral in the best possible lighting and process a single picture highly to advertise it then when you get it you don't have anywhere near the colors etc you were expecting.
Try and find a place that states what lighting they take pictures under and what processing they do on the pictures, make sure the picture doesn't look too saturated or photoshopped if possible or you might be disappointed.

As for price, that totally depends, how much are you willing to pay for something you like? It's different for everyone.

The price as stated above all depends on the zoas. My thing to you is buy what you like, honestly you pay more for the more colorful stuff, i just buy what i like and make sure you get a coupld different pics of the item if you can.

Very good advice. Don't fall for the oversaturated pics that look nothing like the real coral. Also don't fall for super macro pictures that show stunning detail that you will never see in your tank.

I don't know if I would trust a company that obviously can't keep their web site up to date. I mean look a the dates on small colonies, it says new 3-21??? 3-21 when, 2009 or 2008?

I like to deal with Live Aquaria they have reasonable prices, reasonable shipping and the BEST Arrive alive guarantee you will find in the business.

I also like to deal with Cherry corals Pricing is a little steep but you will get Corals from them that you cannot get anywhere else.

Wet Thumbs is also not to bad, I have only ordered from the once or twice but they were OK.

If at all possible always order from the WYSIWYG places. the only one I would trust to give me a decent break is Live Aquaria, everything I have ever ordered from there has been great.
