To let some kenya tree, anthelia and gsp completly take over a tank on purpose??I thinking of doing this with my 29 fowlr, but wondering if there would be nutrient battles or coral warfare, would there be any problems with just letting it go crazy as a low budget reef, since it's allready setup and running.

I think the GSP would fight the others. It would be cool though.

It's just an idea as i want to eventually remove it from my nanocube to make some room for some nicer coral hopefully soon, and i thought it would look pretty cool just to let it go with no intentions of adding any other corals. Thanks Jon

    "would this hurt anything?"

Many times, such as in this case, if you have to ask the question, you probably shouldn't do it.

I agree it would be cool, aesthetically.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Soft corals

I believe it would be just fine. The only real soft corals that cause some toxin problems in a smaller tanks are the leathers. In the pictures I posted on the Hello forum you can see GSP growing on the back wall, it has been that way for over a year, and I can not kill the xenia and anthelia. It only tends to die back when the tank is run really clean. The only draw back I see is that if you want to use the LR again you may have some problems getting some soft corals off. I think blue cloves would probably the only corals I would not let go completely wild, but I hear people say the same thing about gsp and xenia. Easy and cheap corals and low maintance, and attractive I would go for it.

I've always dreamed on going without a sand bed and just having GSP covering the ground but it would be impossible to prevent it from encrusting the rocks.

I understood the question; but in this case, I was referring to coral warfare.;)
