    Hi Guys,

I went out of town over the Thanksgiving holiday and decided to leave my lights off of my tank. I have been battling dinoflagellates and didn't want an outbreak while I was gone. I came home and most of my corals were pretty weak looking. The only things that looked normal were my palys and zoas. My kenya tree looked the worst. It was deflated and leaning over. I checked my salinity and it was normal. I tested my water and the only thing that was off was my alkalinity. It was pretty low at 7.7 DKH. It had been staying at around 10.4 and I have been dosing the alk a lot to help with the dinoflagellates. I dosed the alkalinity to help bring it up and did a 10 gallon water change today. I am planning another larger water change later this week as well. My other parameters were as follows:

    Salinity: 1.025
    Ammonia: 0
    Nitrites: 0
    Nitrates: 2.5
    Phosphates: 0
    Alkalinity: 7.7 DKH
    Calcium: 420
    Magnesium: 1500
    Temp: 79
    Ph: 8.0

My top off bucket still had some water in it, so I don't think that I had a salinity swing. My fish all looked good as well. I turned the lights on and everything started to perk up. The kenya tree is now sitting upright but still has not really opened. I was wondering if you think it will pull through and if there is anything that I can do for it. How will I know when it is a goner and I should pull it? Thanks!!!

    Regards,
    Ivy

P.S. I will post a picture shortly of what it looks like.

Pretty sure it will be ok. Those kenya Trees are hardy. Unless something else happened.

At some point it will shed, and sometimes branches fall off to propagate, all normal, don't be surprised. A Kenya tree is the coral you need to worry least about.
