Well a 1-1 tie isn't a bad start to the cup for the US. I'll have to say, our goalie played amazing.

A tie was a very good thing. England was the US's toughest opponents in this group. Teams get 0 pts for a lose, 1 pt for a tie, and 3 pts for a win. After each team plays the three other teams in their group, the top two teams with the most points advance to the elimination matches. Next up for the US is Slovenia and then Algeria after that. We should do just fine against those two teams.

Ahh, that's how the cup scores for ties.

There are other sports that have the word " World" in front of it, but they just move a little faster. As in many times MPh, or KPH faster ;)

I mean sports like baseball calling it the World Series when it's just US teams playing whereas the World Cup actually has 32 different countries playing so it can appropriately have the title "World Cup". Most soccer leagues have an aggregate point type system for competitions. Helps to get rid of things like home field advantage.

LOL There is a Canadian team in MLB, so that's why they call it the World Series. Though, I agree...I've always thought it was strange. And then the winning team says they are "world champions." haha

The tie is considered a bit of an upset because England were heavily favored in the match. Even a tie was a strong underdog pick in the betting odds.

True, but the thing the US had going for them was getting to the finals in the Confederation Cup. That was huge for the US.

That was awesome, I thought they were going to take the Cup before they collapsed in the second half.

Yeah, hopefully they pull out a final appearance again. I think if they could pull that off, soccer will hopefully really take off here.
