    well well well...

woke up this morning to a nice surprise.. dont panic it wasnt the reef tank.. but my 55g freshwater.. opened my eyes to hear what sounded like a nice waterfall noise from a far.

well the saga started last night when I decide to put my air stone in the tank and my pump in the stand and not on top of tank like normally do. well the airtubing came off the pump over night and drained out half the tank water.. when I woke up this morning Ive been working non-stop to soak up mess and refill tank. lucky red devil is ok. but water seaped under wall into other room adajcent to the fish tank room. I probly have 30 gallons of water to soak up. Ive used 25+ full size bath towels so far.. what a PITA. I'll never do this again.. :-[

If only had a check valve on that airtubing or had pump mounted higher, this wouldnt have happen..

In 15 years this is definitly the biggest flood I've had, only other time maybe 1-2 gallons that overflowed out of my reef sump.. lesson learned..

well at least you did have a big loss, other than your time. I had a similar thing happen with an air stone in an old skimmer, lucky I was around when it happened. same thing though, will never happen again because I use a check valve now.

    Shop Vacs come in handy.

I learned that years ago too. I finally bought one of those little plastic shelves that hangs on the back of the tank rim and stuck the air pump on it so no siphon.
