why is my tank cloudy!?!?! bacteria bloom?

    ok i had a poweder blue tang get pop eye and die the other day. i treated with half a dose of melifix.skimmer went nuts (as expected).i started vertex bio pellets about a week ago. today lights came on and the water is cloudy. everything tests ok.

    i have heard several people have the same problem when the first add the bio pellets just give it so time and keep an eye on it

    I think it's a solid carbon source, like dosing vodka except pelletized.

    just giving an update my tank is still cloudy..possibly worse then yesterday

    The vertex bio pellets are more than likely your source of cloudiness. It is probably and should be a bacteria bloom. From what I've read it is common is some setups if you add to much at once. It's better to add half the recommended amount to start with and then later add the second half. You shouldn't see any adverse affects so long as it last no longer that 3-5 days and even after that should be minimal.

    Make sure that your pellets aren't tumbling to violently as you could be sending to much of the bacteria back into the tank and not allowing it to colonize on the pellets.

    Might want to do a water change also... try and dilute the problem
