Why is my foxface different the others I see?

Most of the top of its body is black - not a spot like others. I have yet to see another like it. Heres a pic. Sometimes the black is more vivid than in the picture.

not sure if it was the same with vdub, but mine when i got it, roughly 3 inches long, did have the 1 spot. over time it morphed.

 

Ya know, I was sort of wondering if that was a possiblity! Mine was always like this even at 2 inches long.

 

Yep, that is probably a species mix.

I have a one spot foxface. He has a very distinct spot when he is bright yellow; then at other times he has a dark smudge from head to tail just like yours. When he is in camo mode, you cant see either of the dark patterns at all. They are such unique fish...maybe a bit neurotic!

 

My lfs had one that was a very dark brown but whith white on the face.
