why does this happen with return pumps

    I did the exact same thing Jed, it was a piece of garbage. Finally after about 2-3 months it got really really loud then quit moving water. I grabbed a mag 9.5 and its wonderful

    hmmm it is a cheap pos Rio HF that i picked up for mad cheap... guess ill take it back and go with a mag. They are good, ive had this one mag for years upon years and its still going strong!

    i kinda need one right now though so would shaving the bubbles down be a bad idea?

    It's saltwater, nothing more. On boats we don't use any pump as a backup that's been run before.

    Yes I have had the same problem. Often times the impeller is stuck. vinegar bath is good idea. Believe it or not, hitting the pump has worked for me too. Check to see if there is any stray voltage leaking, if so, the pump is effed. It will make a good door prop

    the water is drying up and the salt is encrusting everything inside the pump. if you take a pump out of saltwater run it in freshwater for a few secs.

    whenever i put a pump in storage i run it in freshwater for a few hours first and i never have a problem

    Completely disassemble the pump clean it then put it back together and try it.
