This is like my 3rd frag, other 2 never opened and it never opens in my tank, been in about a week now, and still not open

Everytthing else seems to do well except for the gsp

    params

    ammonia 0
    nitrite 0
    nitrate 5
    phos 0
    mg 1300
    ca 460
    alk 12

    Sg1.026
    temp 79

Its in a modertate flow area, and about half way up in the tank under 4 54watt t5s.

Does anyone have the secret to getting GSP to open?

Are you getting the exact same kind each time? When you say they don't open, do you wait til they wither away? because some can can take up to 2 weeks to open.

The original ones are still in the tank unopened 6 months later.

I'm not sure what kind this is, the place I ordered corals from threw it in as a bonus. The other corals I ordered opened no issue, frogspawn, mushrooms xenia

What are you using to glue it down with, if super glue try to only glue the smallest part possible down if it's not encrusted on a frag plug. Also, what sort of t5 bulbs are you using? You may want to try moving the GSP down a bit in your tank. I'm using a 6 bulb geismann setup for my 23 inch deep tank, and the GSP grows best in my tank (best color/polyp extension) in shadowed areas, in moderate flow.

Under the bright lights the polyps only extend slightly from the main mass for a few hours a day, the rest of the time it's retracted.

+1 My guess would also be light or flow. I find they do best with lower to moderate light and like some flow, but not "SPS" levels of flow.

they are under geissman t5's 4 of them, I didnt use glue on these, it had a small rock behind it and I was able to rubberband them down.

They were kept under Metal halides at the store., thats why I figured Id put them higher up, where would you suggest they go, at the very bottom?

I have a hard time with GSP also! I am keeping SPS out the whazoo but cant keep a frag of GSP to save my sole. I put it to the water quality being too good! I did just buy a large rock of it and placed it in one of my other tank and I am keeping that water a little more dirrty and it is doing well! Just my observation!

what other corals do you have in your tank? it might be losing a chemical war. Do you run carbon?
