    That makes a lot of since. I can tell the Petco around me doesn't sell a lot of saltwater stuff because they don't stock it lol. Where as the Petco by where I work has an awesome selection. ;D

    I think the issue isn't about buying dry goods... it's about livestock.

    Cuz their so-called "aquatic specialists" are incompetent! It's literally a joke the way the house fish. Over-crowded, stressed out fished that often are inbred and or infected with ich! Angels are over bred, cichlids are over house. I can just go on, I hate corporate pet stores that sell fish. Have you ever seen how sad the fish tanks are at Walmart? Also at PetCo it's not rare to find multiple dead fish that will stay there til the end of the day at least.

    No, not really. I buy dog food from a pet store, but I'd never buy a puppy from one.

    I buy cat litter from Petco, but would never buy a cat there.

    Not at all the same.

    But by buying their products you therefore support their business and thus support all their activities even puppy mills, fish and coral abuse etc etc!

    Wrong. Company's look at sales numbers and they know what people are buying. If you buy dry goods from petco you aren't supporting the sale of livestock. The reason they still sell livestock is bc there are still tons of people buying it. Bottom line is don't buy livestock if you don't like how they keep it.

    No, because, they sell you the $1 per gallon tank to get you to buy more overpriced stuff. They loose money on the $1 per gallon tank, to get you in the door. So, if you only buy the $1 per gallon tank, they are loosing money, so, your not really supporting them....

    m2434 you really think they are losing money on the $1 per gallon deal? They get all their stuff in bulk from China, we're talking tens of thousands of fish tanks. They seriously probably get them for 15 cents a gallon

    Honestly, I dont think they lose money, but only gain a small financial gain from the 1$ per gallon sale. You'd be surprised what large companies make off products that they put on their shelves. All due in part to the contracts they have with the companies who manufacture the merchandise.
