I quaratine for 6 weeks with copper and other meds if required, can't afford to infect my display tank. Would be a costly mistake if my display inhabitants get infected and a pain to try and catch after.

I FW dip along with methylene blue for 4-5 min and then quarentine for 2-3 weeks. I've never lost a fish due to FW dip.

every fish I have ever bought has come from a LFS that treats there tanks with copper. So I aclimate for 30 minutes and in they go.
I've never had a fish bring anything into the tank

Most of my fish come in on trans shipments. I have never dipped or quarantined. I do run a uv which could have some impact. I have a perfectly healthy Achiles that went into my display with no quarantine. JMO

    Always Quarantine!!

I can't tell you how many tanks I've seen get wiped out because of no QT practices. I don't care how good the fish looks at the store. It may not even be neccesary to treat with anything but just to see if any diseases or infections pop up. Minimun 30 days but more is better. If a pet store tells you its OK to just add a fish to your tank w/out QT b/c they use copper in their systems DON'T DO IT! For copper to work optimally fish have to be exposed to it for at least 7-10 days and are you willing to risk your other fish b/c the pet store guy tells you "It's been here for two weeks. Don't worry." Plus, QT tanks are a less stressful way to introduce fish to your display tank. You can take your time matching conditions to your main tank. Also, you can fatten the fish up from the period of time where it wasn't being fed which is pretty much from the time it was captured to the time it made it to the pet store and even then I don't believe most pet stores feed all that well. PLUS, it's always a good idea to have a tank ready to go incase you have to seperate out one of your fish. You never know what may happen. Dismounting soapbox. Thank you.

I do agree...that if we all had the money to have qt tanks that it would be a good idea...but well if we dont have one then there is nothing we can do :) im buddies with my lfs and they just put the fish i want in the display tank for a month and then i get it :)
