Hello, I have been reading all I can here for months now so I decided to join. This is great. I have a question that seems to be one of those great unanswerable ones. I have a 90g that I am turning into a reef tank. I will have a sump/refuguim. It seems that most people have a 75g or 120g. So I need to know what size of skimmer would work for me. I am looking at the AquaC Remora Pro, AquaC EV 120, AquaC Urchin Pro except it is 26" tall or the Octopus NW 150. I see alot of you like the Remora but most have a 75g or less. I have also read that skimming works best when placed in the sump. If anyone can help it would be great. Also if you think I should look (again) at a different skimmer please recommend it. Thanks.

    Re: Best Skimmer

I have had the Remora and Remora Pro skimmers before. They were ok. I personally thought they could be better as they did not saturate their column with bubbles and produce tons and tons of skimmate.

Looking at the 3reef Reviews section, people seem to love either the Octopus NW 150 or the AquaC EV 120 protein skimmers. Of your choices, I'd go with one of those which would work great for your tank.

    Thanks for joining 3reef!

Thank you for replying. I am glad that you did not say that all my choices were wrong. Research pays. Thanks again.

No prob! A 90 with a sump will be a nice tank. Good luck!

I agree with Matt. I also have had both the remora and remora pro. I have 2 pros right now. They work great but if I was starting a new tank of 90 gallons or bigger I would not go with a remora. Not because I think it would not do the job....I think it would be great with a remora pro even heavilly stocked. But, think bigger. You may want to upgrade your tank in the future. Better to go overkill on your skimmer then not skimm well enough. A simple awnser would be a remora pro would work awesome on your tank but a skimmer rated for bigger would be better yet.

Good luck with the new reef tank. Planning and construction is half the fun. What lighting are you going with? What types of corals/fish are you planning?

Thanks Jay. YES!!! Planning and construction is FUN. As for lighting I am looking at Current usa outer orbit or the sunpod. What do you think of those? There are so many corals to choose from. As for fish a Coral Beauty and Tangs are a must.

Did you choose a skimmer yet? I use the berlin turbo works well the only issu I have had over the past 4 years is the impeller keeps breaking after awhile. 14 dollar fix not bad works well for me. If I were to start over will definately go bigger on the skimmer although 4 years straight and it's still skimming.
