All fish, but my clown, died in my 40 gallon tank. I cannot figure out what caused the deaths.

    Here are the threads:

The 40 gallon has all new sand, 35ish gallons of water from my old 37 gallon tank, live rock from my 37 gallon tank and 15ish gallons of new water. Reused filter media.

Since I have no idea what killed my fish, when do you think I can add a new fish? I'm terrified and would hate to be giving a fish a death sentence. But maybe it is safe? And I can tell my clown is lonely.

    Thanks! :)

I would wait a week and see if there are any changes to the clown's condition. Then I would go for it. I would test during the period to see if anything is happening with the nitrogen cycle and see if something is going on with your pH. I think I would go for a hearty fish to add also.

Thanks. I was thinking a couple weeks or so.

I'm still pretty traumatized from the big crash. I don't want to see that happen again!

I'm worried it was marine velvet, but would the clown have gotten better so fast? A matter of hours? That's what makes me think it wasn't marine velvet, even though the deaths of the other fish fit.

    Definitely better safe than sorry.
