if you fill out this forum this guy will recommend a crew for your tank and its inhabitants. this makes no garuntee of purchase. you just get a recommendation.

when my 90 was setup. i had 2 urchins, 20 hermits crabs, 3 emeralds, one sand star, 10 turbos, 10 asterina, 2 gaint zebra turbos.
i don't know if i would recommend a sand star for anyones tank because they eat all the life in the bed and destroy it. the gaint zebras were cool you never had to flip them over like some other snails

    i had a heavy bioload.

eventually half the snails and hermits died. mainly because at the 2 year mark i had no algae except coralline. then more snails and hermits died when i got a puffer, the fishes personality was worth it though ;D

if i did it again i would just go with snails, urchins, and emeralds.

the hermits kill snails for shells and food, so there kinda incompatible. since the hermits can't clean glass it pretty clear to pick snails.

i have to say the zebras were like little tanks, they were machines nothing would stop or kill them definitely cool detritivores

    +1

    In my 55 I have

    ~90 dwarf ceriths
    ~30 planaxis
    ~25 nerites of various sizes
    ~10 Fl Ceriths
    ~6 nassarius
    ~15 blue legged hermits
~1 limpet (the rest didn't make it past acclimation)

I had 2 chitons, but they died a while back as did my emerald crabs. Not enough GHA for them... I lost a few FL Ceriths to my hermits.

Those numbers are estimates. I haven't had any real die-off (other than what I listed) and my tank stays clean and I do not have a huge bio-load so I would not say this is a particularly large CuC.

I think having a lot of snails is more natural and keeps the tank much cleaner to boot.

a whole bunch nassarius snails, 6 chitons, 1 mexican turbo snail, purple linkia star, tiger goby(thanks to scenario) that is cleaning my sand, 10(?)cerith snails

I've really enjoyed the Chitons, they keep my rock nice and clean. You can see where they've been. I had a bunch of big hermits, but they've all died. Yeah I've had them for about 2 years. Is there something with the 2 year mark, that they seem to die then? I got my last CuC from John too @ reefcleaners

29g tank with 4 fish (pair of clowns, coral beauty and springeri dottyback)

7 turbo snails, 10 red legged hermits, 2 blood shrimp and 1 cleaner shrimp.

I know lots of people here would view this as being too small a CUC, but tank is over a year old and I have no probs with algae.

ie it works for me, other things work for other people.
