My new halide is bringing up the temp to a steady 79 my gut is telling me this is a tad high all the colras and fish seem to be perfectly normal and happy. Any input?

Thats fine....anywhere from 78-80 in my book is perfect.
You can actually drop a little lower at night and higher during the day without at problems because it does that naturally in the ocean.

But best to stay as stable as possible in that range and you should have no problems.

I keep my tanks at 80-81 and things are happy and colorful.

My tank hits 80 regularly and 79 is where I keep the thermometer so I don't get large swings in temp. I've seen no adverse affects and think you should be fine.

I keep mine lower, ~76f - 74f, but 79 is just fine. Some people, like R Shimek, suggest 82f but i find my stuff looses color and does not like 82f or above.

I like to keep mine around 78 to allow for variances, but anything up to about 82 is still not too bad.

75-82 here. depends on season though.. so 75-79 during winter, and 78-82 during summer... I have to use frozen water bottles to keep temp down during the summer. Dang expensive chillers.
