Finished my first ever 20g long sump/fuge with glass baffles. Dropped it off the tailgate of my truck, it shattered and peices went everywhere. I cried.

Fed a majano that popped up while my tank was still cycling. Thought it was a hitch hiking polyp. Then felt horrible when I found out it was bad and had to be killed.

Let a huge aipitasia live my sump. Now I'll never be rid of them.

this is very similiar to my mistakes. When I first put my rock in a few days later I seen these little tentacles surface. I was so happy I had hitchhiking corals....come to find out the whole story about aiptasia and thats what I had growing....months later I fed 2 majeno anemones thinking I had 2 small bubble tips.

lol I fead my aipitasia in my 20 gallon tank thinking they were good and actually tried to frag them and give them to a family member.

she told me what they were and that they were bad but i keep one in my 20 gallon now to remind me of that day.

not so newbie mistakes that have caused laughter from other people in the home

Saturday evening , water change, old fashioned syphon into buckets routine and then pour down the big white telephone

I like to do behind the rockwork, as thats where majority of sediment finds its way in my sumpless set up

I need help with this as my arms are not long enough to operate both ends of the hose when doing this vacuuming style of water change

my 9 year old son Alan, is responsible for the end of the hose that goes into the bucket

operation started, I am on a chair with arm in tank, Alan is directing the hose into the bucket
Raymond his 3 year old brother sees an opportunity with Alan being busy and goes over to the dinning table next to the tank, with a plastic shopping basket and proceeds to sweep loads of Alans Lego from the table into the basket and run away with it

Alan reacts by jumping up and waving his arms about and this creates a spray of salt water going everywhere

I reacted by removing my end as quickly as possible from the tank

Alan in the mean time has realised what he has done and proceeds to look around all innocent whilst shoving his end of the hose back in the bucket

Raymond made a clean escape with the lego
I spent 20 minutes with rags and mops trying to get salt water from the table, the floor, the front of the cabinet etc

I am still a NewB but when I first got the tank I tried to pick up bristle worms with my bare hands not knowing what they were and it turns out, its not a good idea at all.
