I know nanos are supposed to be small, anyways would a 30G Tall be considered a nano tank, also is there a set specifics for what is determined as nano livestock,is there anything that does good or bad livestock wise in a nano

All opinions, thoughts and suggestions are welcomed;D

The reason I'm asking is because tonight at the lfs I purchased a 30gt tank.

I believe 30g and under is usually classified as a nano although opinions may very. Having a smaller tank will limit the fish that you are able to keep. Which is why I am currently cycling a 90g to get my fix for bigger fish.

Nano livestock would be small fish, that aren't overly active, heavy bioload or oxygen users. Check out liveaquaria.com. they have a pretty good nano fish section.

Agreed...30g is about tops for what I've seen described as a nano. Stocking can be challenging especially on the smaller end of the spectrum just because everything needs to be "nano-sized" to keep the scale of things looking right. In general you don't want to choose things that will very quickly outgrow a small tank. The other challenge with nano's is keeping params steady. It takes much less to skew params with a smaller amount of water. Things like nems and even SPS can be a bit more challenging in nano's just because they tend to be less tolerant of swings in params that may be more prevalent with the smaller body of water. That's a fairly general answer. Specifically I think you can keep almost anything in a nano with-in reason...just be aware of each animals needs relative to the rest of the inhabitants...with less space and less water things that might get along OK in larger tanks can cause problems.

Could you please define "nano technics"? Most of the ones I've seen use the same filtration as anyone else- LR, LS, skimmer, fuge...
