My father in law took down his pond in his back yard..he has a mag 9.5 that was in the pond used as a return..he wanted to know if I could use it for my tank(as I'm already using the same for my return)..what do you guys think.can it be cleaned/disinfected enough for me to use as a back up pump..I was thinking vinagar bath first then a bleach soak, then rinsed with ro/di water..but let me know if its worth it..pump is only 1 1/2 yrs old..TIA..

Just clean it up real good. If you have a sump for a tank in the 30-50 gallon range it would be a great return pump.

Isn't that a little much for that size tank? I'm using a Mag 9.5 on my 95 gallon?

Yeah I will prob go that route.thanks.

yeah it would be prob to much, and have to be turned down alot. I wouldnt recomend using it on that small of a tank, unless it was SPS dominant..

I have one on mine but I also have it do more since I have power to spare. I piped mine to be the return, the feed for the UV light and the feed for the GFO. Just a couple Tees and a few valves and boom there you go.
Removed two feeding pumps from my setup :) less power, less heat.. I know I am happy
