    HI,
My tank is 120 gallons has been running for 2 months I have 2 clown fish and 6 chromis. When I first filled up my tank I used tap water but this week hook up my ro/di unit and did my first 5 gallons water change. My house is small so can't have big trash can for water change but plan on doing 5 gallons water change every week.

Last week I started to have a cyano outbreak and with furthur reading I was overfeeding( twice a day) and tap water don't help.
Now I started to get brown algea with the cyano.

I would like to change a lot of my water to the ro/di but how much is safe
Could I change 5 gallons a day for a week, or should I do 5 gallon every other day.

I know ro/di water is good but I also know that you need to take everything slow to not stress your fish.
Can you please let me know

Almost forgot to ask, I used to feed pellets in the morning and half a frozen cube at night, now i know it's too much, how much should I feed my 8 fish. They look like they starve all the time.

    Thanks

fish can go days without eating. You can even feed every other day if you want to, thats what I do, or just feed once a day!

Increase your circulation and water flow to help with some of the cyno problems and biggest thing....dont use your tap water if you can help it. That will give you more phosphates and cause all kinds of algae problems.

You can do 10-20 gallon water changes every few days if you want...or more frequent with less water....up to you. It shouldnt be a problem.

With the chromis, you should feed 3x a day, but small portions. They have a high metabolism. Many people are unsuccesful with them b/c they fail to take into account their feeding requirements. As or the water changes, as you don't have corals (?) and just fish, I would try to do 10 gallons every other day. You are right in that your algae issue are coming from your tap water and you're over feedings.

So if I feed them twice with pellets and once with frozen cube, how many pellets each time(don't want to overfeed) and the cube should I do half or less than half?
My chromis look like there starving all the time, I even need to watch my husband because he would feed them:cheesy:.
    Thanks

With feeding 3x per day, I would keep each feeding minimal. When I just do a small feeding, I make sure each fish got something, but that's about it. Also remember that fish will always act hungry. You can feed them a lot, then come back 10 min. later and they will still act like they are hungry.

Defintitely stop feeding as much and do your water changes as recommended by other members. Best of luck to you!
