What were you looking at, reading, or watching when you finally decided you were gonna swipe the card and get a reef tank?

I was in hawaii diving at green turtle point swimming with sea turtles....

    What about you guys?

I wanted to bring up something interesting that we can all relate to and share a commonality with. Ive noticed a lot of hostility in 3reef lately and thought that this would be a good thread.

you have noticed that also!! I noticed a couple comments from people that instead of being helpful they kind of belittled the poster. The comments came from people unfamiliar to me but I have only been on 3reef since October. This was also the first I had noticed, and seemed to go on for a couple days. Maybe there was a full moon or something!

What made me pull out the wallet was my daughter crying about her old yellow tang we had when we lived up north. She can be a very emotional kid.

Our first tank was a 75g bowfront that came with the house we bought. It was in such bad shape. It was a dark murky green salt tank with a black/ silver damsel and a regal tang that amazingly lived in it with no filter and no skimmer and no live rock of any sort. It ws covered in green hair algea. We worked on it for a while doing water changes and getting filters, better lights. That was the first tank we ever had, and we still have it. But we have upgraded a few times when that great deal comes around.

I already had the tank from way back, so a Dr. Foster Smith catalog got me hooked (basically the live fish section). I even took the catalog to Europe while I was on vacation :loco: (I would look at the things and plan )

By the way 3reef is growing so there is always new people who are going to come in and have different personalities.

Well a friend gave me their old 15h tank. It was empty. I had it sitting in the basement for a few months. I bought a few books about saltwater tanks. Then one day I was at the LFS and just took the plunge.

I have always wanted a reef tank. Now I have one.

Wow, I have missed the poopy remarks.......just as well I suppose. I was wandering Craig's List myself and just typed in aquarium to see what would come up. My dream tank popped up immediately. At the time it was a 75g with stand and canopy. It even came with a Jebo skimmer and a Jebo PC light fixture. "Wow", I thought to myself, "this is some high tech stuff!!!!". lol. Then I discovered 3reef and started re-tooling my entire system. Now the only thing left from the original system that I am using is the stand and light fixture (which only half works). It amuses me that when I bought it I thought is was top notch, only to discover that almost everything was second or third rate (and I don't think the guy had a clue).
