If I know I'm going to be working on the tank, as soon as I get home, I'll use dawn liquid soap, and I run my hands under warm water, rubbing them together for a while so I rinse as much of it off as possible. I'll dry them really good with paper towels. After that, I make sure not to touch anything that would contaminate my hands (food, dogs, car engine, etc). Just before I go to work on the tank, I just run my hands under warm water for a while and dry off. I really don't recommend this, but it's what I do... I don't wear gloves, but I probably should.

Hmmmm... what kind of horror stories, John? I touch the LR with my bare hands all the time... I hope I'm not killing my tank! Can you elaborate on that comment, please?

My hands were always wet when I tried the disposables. The thicker ones were way too thick for me.

I don't wash my hands with soap before I put them in the tank. Clean hands aren't all about soap anyways, but about friction. I use an alcohol spray bottle when moving between tanks.

I wouldn't use gloves unless I was getting bit. They never use gloves even at the best local reef shops. I think being careful and mindful is key. I just rinse hard with water like mentioned before. But there is danger of contaminants always with bare skin.
