    So I have my new tank, the filter media, the T5 light ballast (no bulbs yet). I am slowly building up.

    I am planning to get the salt water first, then get some sand & rock, then bulbs.
    But I am posting to ask if I should get the bulbs or LR?

    I'd get the lr as u don't need bulbs to cycle

    cycling the tank in the dark is absolutely fine and can help prevent nuisance algae plagues
    which would result due to light coupled with the high nutrients of the cycle
