What to put in the bio chamber and how much of it I was in my local pet store and met a guy with a 180 gallon tank and only had a skimmer and sock in his sump claimed the 300 lbs of Fiji rock and sand bed was what was maintaining the fish.

Thats the berlin system. Live rock and live sand is the single most important part of a good biological filter. I ran a tank with no skimmer and only rock with success for 6 months. You could put bio balls in the chamber. Is this a canister filter?

Awesome tang collection. Looks like a very entertaining active tank. If its a wet dry I would leave bio balls in it. IMO the ceramic rings work better in a fully submerged system like a canister filter.
