I am wanting to get an Idea of the fish and shrimp/crab I can keep in a 75 reef tank 48x18x21 and wanted to know is this was a good stocking list for the tank keeping in mind that this tank is around 4-5 months from starting its cycle but I want to get a firm idea before the time comes. I will have a 55 gallon sump with a 25-30 fuge area and a protiene skimmer with about 100 lbs of live rock in the DT and aroung 10 lbs in the fuge. I would list corals but I have no clue as to what I want to keep yet. Is this over crowded and will the fish fight with each other and if so which ones? All of the fish will be aquried over time and only if Im sure they can be kept W/O any feeding problems

i would wait a while to get the mandy..just so you can have a good population of pods since the tank will be new..

and the six line for the same reason..some people may say you shouldnt keep both the mandy and the six line since they both destroy hundreds of pods a week..

I would say 18-20 fish in a 75 is overcrowded. Even though they are small fish...still too many. What type of skimmer? For a load like that, you'd need a beast. Will you be running reactors to help with filtration? Honestly, I'd cut the list in half...or upgrade to a 120 maybe.

definatly cant do a 120 but was hoping for this typeof response to help narrow my list down. I want the clowns, mandy and the 4 fire fish withtout a second thought that totals with the fish i already have to 9 what else could i have? and will the two diffrent species color of firefish work? the skimmer is an odysea rated for a 75 gallo. as far as reactors go im going to re disign a canister filter i have to use nothing but carbon and use a ATS to help with the nitrates ans nitrites.

I have no experience mixing firefish, but have heard there can be aggression between the two. As far as the skimmer, with that many fish (and you wanting more), I would upgrade the skimmer. Shoot for one rated at 150 gallons. And as stated above, wait on the mandarin until the system is mature. I would run carbon and gfo if it were my tank. Do you already have all the equipment for the 75 gal (i.e. tank, stand, etc.)? If not, look on CraigsList...I see 120 gallons listed weekly for less than $200 normally in the NC/SC ads. 120's have nearly the same footprint as 75's (6" wider).
