Then it "Should" hold it's siphon, you will just have to test it when you get a chance.

recently a few members in the reef club had to rehome alot of their livestock because of a major power outage in NH, sad but safeguarding your tank for a power outage is really pricey (generator) which is y most dont go all out. Its just one of those unfortunate things that might happen. Be as prepared as you can within your budget and hope for the best.

Tested just a few minutes ago and voila! Glad to see there won't be the overflow problem there;D

Thanks for the help as well, don't know what I'd do without experienced aquarists like you people...actually I'd probably spend 5x the amount of money, become very frustrated, kill a lot of organisms, and then give up...so thanks again for all the great feedback and the forum!

Ha ha I am not very experienced yet but this is an issue I had already tested because I was worried. Glad it worked!

Actually I was wrong! When I first set it up, I was having continuous problems with it keeping siphon...thought there was too much flow, too little flow etc. So, I rigged a piece of PVC coupling to it in the overflow drain in the back side, which would essentially raise the water level in that box. When I did it, everything worked fine. Without that piece of PVC, the u-tube isn't long enough to maintain a siphon...boo that. SO I will look for a different u-tube, or make this PVC coupling attachment permanent. I'll try to get a picture to better explain...

Cool, the best way I learn sometimes is to just try it.
