If its a 4ft 60 you could consider a kole tang or a tomini. If its a 60g cube I think that would make even those smaller tangs stressed and aggressive. That being said I don't recommend a tang to start any tank due to personality.

I like you have a 'plan' of what you want your tank to be. One thing thats common in this hobby is people say I'll do "A" first then go through "B" and "C" to get to "D." Well then you have xenia and star polyps all over the place, and your green mushroom went through a powerhead and is stinging your tricolor valida and you start a build thread with dry rock. Obviously this is a worse-case hyperbole type of situation, but you see it all the time.
You know you want LPS and some SPS. Go get a duncan, turn down your radions, and then start looking for you designer clown pair and a good acan pack.

    Update.

So I went to my lfs seeking advice on what to add next and I mentioned that am very interested in Lps coral. I told him my parameters and a little bit about the tank and he said I could get most of the things in their larger Lps display. I ended up with a green clove polyp, a blue hammer and a goniopora. I hadn't heard of a goniopora and thought it looked cool so I took the plunge and got something I hadn't heard of. I believe this was a mistake. In the future I will make sure to research before purchasing and sticking to the plan. I didn't know that it is such a demanding and difficult species to keep. So now I know what I need to know about it and just hope the feedings don't foul my water since the tank is young. I'm keeping a very close eye on my parameters and have begun target feeding dr.g's Lps max. It's only been five days but everything looks like its doing great so far and I haven't noticed any difference in my params.

Also not all gonniopora are created equally. Some are much more difficult to keep in captivity. Some are easy though as well.

Hey I ment to mention that the 60 gallon is a 24" cube. So tangs are out. I am okay with that though because I really like small fish anyway.

Heres a pic of the blue hammer

it's small but I think it was worth it.

I was reading that its hard to tell which species of goniopora is which. I know mine isn't an encrusting variety. I fed it this evening and it looked very pleased, extending the furthest i have seen since I brought it home.

Good luck on the gonniopora. With advances in reefing like ocean nutrition foods, phyto culturing, and coral based foods like reef chili and coral frenzy, these smaller LPS are more success in aquariums.

Love that hammer, shipping to 59102?

Great choices for the corals! From what I've researched (gonipora) can do well or not. We'll hope that it likes your tank! They are beautiful. I think torches and bubble corals are pretty hardy LPS. Although bubbles kind of grow quickly and don't have a lot of color unless you find a really cool neon green one.

I would go ahead and add a fish. What kind of stocking list were you looking for? It's best if you can come up with a potential list and then you can work out compatibility and order of putting them in based on temperament. I think every tank needs a clown :) They are very hardy; however, many will say they should be added among the last of your stock because they get territorial. HTH.

Congrats on your first adds! It's exciting isn't it? :)

Ingtar, Not sure if my LFS will ship but it doesn't hurt to ask. I also don't know if they have another blue hammer for you. Its manhattan aquariums, you can find their contact info online. I think my gonipora might need more or less flow because it doesn't open fully. Ill have to try and experiment a little.

Oldfishkeeper, Thanks and yes its very exciting to finally get something into the tank! A bubble and torch are on my must have list for corals. I really enjoy the movement of euphillas so I also must have a frogspawn. As for my fish stocking list I would like one or a pair of snowflake clowns, a dottyback, a goby, and if possible a dwarf angel like a flame or coral beauty. I also like anthias and fairy wrasses. I don't know how many fish would be ok in a 60 gallon tank, so advice here would be great.

Marshall O, Thank you. I really love the coloration of my hammer. I also like that its small and will get to see it grow over time.

oo, oo I saw goby. You should consider a goby/pistol shrimp pair. I have one and the pistol is super cool! Makes loud clicks when it pops its claw. Happens randomly throughout the day, more active when lights are on. I think one of the coolest gobies is a yellow watchman - such expressive, grumpy faces. They pair with tiger pistols I believe. There is a list somewhere where you can find goby/pistol pairings.

The rest of your potential list sounds perfect! Frogspawn is another one of my favorite LPS. Snowflakes are gorgeous and tend to be one of the more peaceful species of clowns. I've never kept a dottyback but I've read where they can get aggressive. So in that list probably the angel, goby (these can get territorial in their cave areas but they are bottom dwellers), clowns then dottyback. That's my .02 on the order if that's the list you end up with. You are going to have one cool tank! ;)
