Okay...I feel better now. It may be a type of sponge, but it's very difficult to tell from the picture. Do you see any openings or cavities in the body mass?

No openings or cavities GraviT. The red thing in the center of it is not part of it, its either a petaloconchus or a Vermetid gastropod not sure yet since its small. but i have both in my tank so... Anyways the thing is smooth black with darker round spots on it (darker black!!! :uhoh2:)

I had one that seamed to be the same thing. It was not a sponge. It moved, albeit very slowly ... like some corals might. It had the texture of an encrusting soft coral, though I don't know what kind.

I wish I could tell you more, but I got nervous and removed it from my system pretty quickly. Does my description sound similar to your experience?

When I say moved, it seamed to "creep" about an inch over the coarse of a week or so.

I would just leave it alone and monitor it. That's the best you can do, everyone seems to be stumped. Also, try to get a clearer shot and you might want to reference wetwebmedia.com.
