eriphia sebana. I caught mine by putting a glass at a angle against the rock with some table shrimp in it. caught it in one day. He is nasty, I think they call him the red devil or something because of those evil eyes. He was hunting my hermit crabs, and I saw him take a swipe at one of my blue chromis at night.

Great job. I caught mine with the glass trick as well.

When I first saw mine for the first time, he was about the size of a dime. Six months later, it was the size of a half-dollar. And yes, they can take down fish.

i am not sure what kind of crab for sure but it it has point on the end of the claw vs. a cup defintly remove it. the crabs with cups on the end of there claws like an emerald crab are reef-safe and only eat algae. crabs with points at the ends of the claws are carnavours and can be a real pest like the gorilla crab which looks like an emerald crab minus the shape of the claw.

    Hello,

I have one of these. I had to capture him and remove him into a solitary tank. He was clipping off the legs of my serpent star fish and he ate my really cute blue leg hermit crab.

To catch him find out where he's hiding, he only comes out at night. Wait until your lights are out and take a piece of raw squid or other tempting item and put it into the bottom of a glass that the crab can get to. You want him to be able to step in easily. Lights out so your other fish don't go in there to get the trap food. Once your crab friend is in the glass he can't get back out :) Then take him out of your main tank and place him in your Q tank or other sump etc. or take him back to your LFS. He is a hitchhiker and is really nasty. I actually took mine out for the day to check him out cause he is quite interesting. I placed a nickle in the bowl with him and he lifted it right up and flipped it over. Now that he is in my Q tank (which I don't really use) he moves things all over the place... he still is interesting to look at but will be destructive to other tankmates...

    Good Luck

Yeah, I'm going to see if I can catch him tonight.
A friend with a FO tank wants him (to "take care of any stragglers" he put it).

Thanks! He was really strong when I saw him, he tried to hide under a slab of LR and push up a bit, lifted the whole thing.
Good tip- think he'll come right out? Or will this be a few hour 'watch and wait' thing?
