i have had many sized tanks, but right now i have a 40 gallon reef tank overflowing with corals, it has 2 coral banded shrimp, a yellow tang, a pixy hawk, a maroon clown, a carpet anemone, and a small damsel. does anyone have suggestions on any additions i could make to the tank. or if i should upgrade, and if so what size whould i upgrade to? i have never had a tank abobe 75 gallons for financial reasons, or lack of funds:p

A 40 gallon for a tang is a bit on the small side, and IMO Coral Banded Shrimp are not a good shrimp for a reef tank. I have seen them tear open mushroom and polyp corals for the food inside and they can be very agressive when they get large. My LFS had one kill a Yellow Watchman Goby not too long ago and it was in a larger tank than yours.

A 60+ gallon tank would be good for the amount of livestock you have and you could possibly ad a few more in a larger tank.

As for your question, sounds like you have a good amount of stock for the 40. You could try a Six Line Wrasse, Goby or a smaller Blenny. GL

thanks for the input. the pair of shrimp are rather shy and are secluded to the back corner. i dont think the tang will need a much larger tank until hes over an inch hes about 3/4 of an inch right now he is tiny. so when he gets a bit bigger i will definately upgrade. and as for the fish you mentioned, would they fair well with my inhabitants as they are quite agressive to new comers sometimes?

I just upgraded to a 75G and it has lots of room but still not to large where you have to dump a whole lot of extra money for equipment. I was going to get a 90 but then it is taller so I would need better lighting, maybe metal halide and then maybe require a chiller, etc. A 75 give you a large enough tank to ad lots of nice fish also. I got the RR Tank on craigslist for $75 and built my own stand an canopy and it looks great.
