You want your sump to run 3x to 5x your tank volume. If you are keeping softies and LPS 10x to 20x turnover including sump return. SPS you want 20x and up. Some running SPS only do 100x.

600gph is a LOT for that tank unless you are not taking head loss into account there, then it might be more appropriate. A 1" bulkhead should handle it fine. Consider putting a gate valve on the output of the pump as well so you can dial it back if you need to.

If I were you here is what I would do.. Use 1" pipe to keep it uniform and have plenty of flow. Get some pvc ball valves to control your water coming in from the tank and out from the pump(to control flow rates).. Also dont forget to install a few Unions so you can take your plumbing apart if need be. As for bulkheads, go with 1", maybe larger on the drain bulkhead.

Hope this helps, and welcome to the forum:)

Also dont worry about 600 gallons being too much.. I had a 950 gph pump on my 30 gal, and I could run it wide open without a hitch..

Yeah, there's nothing technically wrong with running extra gph through the sump but it's just not necessary and using extra electricity and adding more heat to the system.
