what size of sump aqurium is needed

    Hi i am starting to buying things to start my saltwater aqurium. i am going to use a sump. i have a 65g tank. i was wondering what pumps i need for the sump and what do i put inside the sump.i also was wondering what size of sump is needed for my 65 g tank. i was wondering if i could run a protein skimmer in the sump.

    I'd first say that it is great you are building a tank. I think most people here would agree that starting a tank is lots of fun.

    The second is you need to decide why you want a sump. If you don't put a lot of thought into why you are going to have a sump in the first place, you might end up with a bubble producing problem under your tanks making tiny micro bubble in your DT.

    Where are you planning on putting the sump? If inside of the stand get as large of one as will fit. You want a pump that move no more than 10 times the sump's volume at 4 ft head. Putting the skimmer in the sump is a great way to go. Most people put heaters and other equipment they don't want to see in their tanks in a sump.
