well after speaking with 2 sales people at 2 different stores i ordered a neptune apex lite. both sakes people said the only difference between the 2 units was the length of the wires provided.so i said i might aswell get the cheaper 1 because my set up doesnt need much length.

well i got my apex lite in the mail and im now seeing the difference. im not really sure i would need the extra ports or not just yet but im wondering if i should try to exchange the unit for a base model apex incase i do decide to use the extra ports....

So you are talking about the Apex lite vs. the full Apex right... not the Jr.?

The biggest difference is the 4 variable outlet ports.... you can run anything off the Full Apex that is controllable... Tunze Stream pumps, dimmable lights, controlable Korilias ect. Truely sad 2 "sales People" did not tell you that.... different discussion though.

I went with the full apex, but didn't need the ports. I went Vortech which used it's own wireless board mudule to control those. However, dimmable lights opens another door and while you might not need it now, yo umight want it later and you can't add it.

I forget... don't quote me... but I also thought you got another probe port with the full... you could add that later but it would require buying another module that cost about as much as the upgrade... so that is why I went ahead and just got the full to begin with.

Bad thing is these days is that we seem to be used to using the web.. and we might go to a store at times.... but I have called and talked to just about every company I got equipment from. The real answer is only a phone call away. The guys at Neptune are very very helpful. Don't hesitate to give them a call. The horses mouth is where I learned the most about the equipment I was using or potentially buying.... (that is of course minus the bias and marketing :) )

I don't know if there is a module or other mod. Apex running dimmable lights would be cool. Give them a call and make sure before you go through the exchange. There may be a work around..... or like I said, if there is a work around it will cost as much as the difference anyway.

the apex lite is fully upgradeable. if later you want the module that has the extra probe such as orp/ph probe ( can be used for either) dimmable led lights and speed control for the tunze pumps. So your not stuck with a unit that cant do it all, if later you want more from it. but i would say if you have thoughts you might want these extra options, do it now it will be cheaper to start with it than to add it later.

you might be able to find the full module cheaper some where but at least it gives you an idea on price and hope it helps with your choice on what to do.

I am looking at the apex jr. I wont have dim-able lights any time soon. What I am looking for is peace of mind. Something monitoring my tank when I am not there. Temp and such. But I like the idea of the controllable Korella's, I realize that adding on cost money but right now I have other stuff to buy and out of the box I believe it work for be. Any thoughts.
