I've had bettas for years. All have been fed pellets and they loved them!! I had males and females both ate the same thing and had striking colors. I did water changes bi weekly so the food wouldn't build up and used a water conditioner to make it less stressful for the fish.
Oh: make sure to keep a place in the tank plant free as they need to reach the surface as they are air breathers as well.

I use the pellets, but sometimes feed Dr. G's Frozen Cyclops and it LOVES the stuff. I don't even think the small piece of frozen hits the water and it's already gone!

I have yet to find anything that doesn't eat the stuff. From corals to inverts to my largest fish everything loves Dr. G's Frozen Cyclops! (sorry that sounded kind of like a commercial)

when i had a betta with my zebra danios and blue crayfish, an occasional treat would be live brine shrimp, and it was really fun to watch. I dump then shrimp in and the betta and zebra danios come and just eat them like there's no tomorrow! XD the danios got fat that day for eating so many shrimp, my crayfish grabs it with its claws and the little brine shrimp is wiggling its tail (poor thing XD), and the betta would just take his time, eat, spit, and eat.
