i want to ditch my aqueon powerfilter( my current means of cleaning up particulate) and put a filter sock on the end of my overflows output hose to catch particulate instead. what micron size is best? the sock will not impede the flow of the hose causing my overflow to malfunction correct? do you guys just get a few socks and have one running and clean ones ready to go?

besides trapping particulate, are they effective against microbubbles?

I purchased a 50micron pad from marinedepot.com and sewed a nice sock to the exact specifications I needed. Was also cheaper than buying a bunch of socks. Stops microbubbles with ease. For your needs I would go with the 200micron like the others suggested.

I cannot say enough about these things.

Holy crap, they are awesome. It completely did away with the micro-bubbles and has pulled a bunch of stuff from the water that really helped clear it up. I was running a Magnum 350 w/ chemipure and a standard filter sleeve hoping to provide enough mechanical flitration to clean the water but it just wasn't doing the trick.

The 200 micron filter sleeve knocked it out like a champ, though. The micro-bubbles were especially annoying but this just wipes 'em out.

I use 100 micron socks, mainly because I got a 6 pack for free. The only thing I don't like about them is that you have to change them out every 2-3 days. Whats awesome is when there ready to be replaced you can siphon out anything from the DT to them without wasting any tank water.
