I was wondering as am about to do a water change tomorrow...
What kind of salt do you use? I've heard terrible things about instant ocean.
Is there a better brand that has many trace elements so you don't have to dose?

I use instant ocean as well but I've read that it has very little trace elements on it. Which is why u need to dose

Reef crystals. Can you find that salt anywhere or do you buy it online?

If your tank is heavy in sps and a clam or two your prob gonna wanna dose the tank no matter what salt you use. The reason that IO dissolves so quickly is because of the lack of trace elements. Typically the longer it takes to dissolve the better the salt or higher quality it is. I use coral pro by red sea.

I have used Instant Ocean for about a year without any issues. I do use the Reef version however:

Instant Ocean Reef Crystals Salt Mix

I have heard some people use 3-4 different kinds of salt and switch between water changes. I may try this when I get some disposable income as it would be a good way to ensure all trace elements and minerals are accounted for.

    Good luck!

I use Oceanic and I love it. It's a bit expensive, but it is good stuff.
