What kind of coral?

    I just got this yesterday, The guy didn't know what it was called so I was wondering what kind it was :) it has more green in it than you can see in the pic.

    hmm he said it was some kind of brain coral? I dunno Its red and green I googled closed brain coral and found one picture like it. anyone else got any ideas?

    Favia are brain coral. Favidae is the family

    Favia are some of the corals you would label "brains".

    I would say favia maxima.

    Caulastrea furcata is my best guess.

    alright sounds good, its kind of cut off will it grow more and spread ? I have never had any brain corals at all in my tank before his is a first ..

    Yeah it will, it will grow faster if it gets some food. Most likely will grow from the edges by division. May do so in the middle too.

    Almost looks like Acanthastrea? Or half brain? hard to tell with that small pic too.

    Usually when they're small, they grow out from the edges. When the colony gets to a decent size, it starts more "up and out" type growth, which gives them their characteristic colony shape in the wild. That shape, the giant dome, is why they're called brain corals.
