I grew up on the east coast in Canada and always loved...no was amazed while snorkeling and wading in the tide pools. As I got older and working I had moved to central Canada and longed for the ocean so I started a freshie tank about 15 yrs ago. I was always into watching the Jacques Cousteau adventures and anything on the Discovery Channel or Nature that included the ocean. One day last March while visiting my LFS my oldest son said I should switch to salt after looking at the 200g DT and the 400g shark tank. I did the research, lurked on many sites and finally made the jump in Aug 2010. Man I get so relaxed every evening watching my reef and sometimes find myself daydreaming that I'm back home snorkeling. ;D

i work at a pet store and know alot about freshwater aquariums. after setting up a couple freshwater tanks i felt it was time for me to move on to something bigger and better. i dont know anyone who owns a saltwater tank so i bought a bunch of books and joined this forum ...so here i am today with a FOWLR tank. i have yet to get corals though because im a little intimidated by them. i need a friend here in austin who can teach me everything!! ...any takers? =)

When you finally figure out how to grow that one special coral right....all its habits, likes, dislikes, flow, food, etc. & when it starts to grow, color-up & glow!!

Also, when you get some cool polyps & freebies from your supplier (thanks Will!)

Even though im fairly new still, its the reward of fixing a problem, and just the satisfaction of a DIY project working or even water levels balancing when I started

ok, here is my story....all my life my mom had fish tanks, just about every size up to a 55 gallon....and i was sued to it, but she never got exotic species, which i wanted, she alkways had bettas guppies mollies platys....all that normal stuff, one day i stumbled across a job at petco....and i seen the fish....i started taking test after test after test and reading book after book after book, and all the knowledge was amazing, even without a tank set up id be addicted....then i became the aquatics specialist...and i had access to more and more files.....but in store is a lot different than at your house, then i slowly pieced together a 38 gallon....it was awesome, never had a problem....then i needed money...there wnt my tank for 700 bucks...had about 1200 into it....then i got a 55, then a 20, then a 24 and now a 75.....the 20 is turning into my sump. the 24 is housing mated clowns and the 75 will be my main....i love watching them swim so carelessly, i wish i was a fish with an attention span of 3 seconds....id never have a care until i was dead or sick....which is where we come in....we have the power to control their surroundings, control their food, everything.....you are basically owning part of the ocean, which is awesome.....and the fact that we fail and learn from it and make it better gets you that much more addicted.....
