What is the biggest return pump a 90RR Deep Blue Professional corner overflow can handle. I am looking at buying an IWAKI 1200GPH pump for return. The pump would have to pump up about 5ft.

    What do you guys think?

What size are the overflows? And are there any restrictions to flow (elbows, 45's, any fittings at all)?

it is just a standard size overflow for a 90g tank. I havent set it up yet... but i am guessing that I will use that bendy / flexible tubing from the bottom of my display to my sump. So shouldnt be any 45's

It could be any number of pipe diameters, I've seen anywhere from 1" up to 2" as the norm, but there is a massive difference between the flow rates of 1" pipe and 2" pipe.

i had a 90 gallon reef ready and my tank ran like a champ... my favorite pump of all time is eheim 1262 its quiet and effecient ... you pay more up front but the dividends are priceless... i have a external pump on my skimmer because it came that way... but im a insump kinda guy if possible..

i look at in sump pumps as being a little heater as well... im in florida and my water stayed perfect with that eheim..

    just a thought

keep in mind too if you will....

that having all that water through the sump doesnt mean your filtering your water any faster...you could put a million gallon per hour thru your sump and only be filtering at what the skimmer can process...

some of the quietest and prettiest tanks ive seen have been tanks with 3 to 4 times turn over and more turnover in the display with powerheads like koralias...

in fact my friend had a dart on a 150 gallon he had like 3000 gph or so going down his overflow.. it was insane...

he only had one over flow and made both holes drains... and it was still at the very top of the teeth on the over flow ...in fact he had to make the teeth wider...

that tank never seemed to run right.. he always dealt with algae etc...

he had another tank that had like 3x the turnover in the sump and it ran like a champ...

sometimes we like to be like Tim the tool man and sup up everything only to find that it just waste electricity LOL

im not saying thats what your doing just a school of thought .... :)

I agree the size pump is a little extreme. I love my Iwaki. Its going on 9 years old and still runs like a champ. I would definitely take the size down some though. Its better as has been mentioned to use powerheads in the tank to achieve the desired ammount of flow.;)

I don't like mag drive pumps. They run hot and are not as efficient as other pumps.Depending on how much you have to spend I would go with an eheim,Oceanrunners get good reviews here as well,or an Iwaki which I use myself. I would use something in the 500 to 700gph range. Not sure if you want a submersible pump or external. If doing external I would definitely pick the Iwaki. Internal I would do an Eheim model 1260. Add two Koralia 750s and you are set.;)
