I am going through the internet on camcorders and it's all a bunch of jargon and very confusing. Has anyone had the training or employment in camcorders? My main wants and desires in a camcorder is good indoor video, decent sound for my guitar practice, not too big and heavy, easy to use, ability to upload to You Tube and ease in editing. A remote control would be a nice option. It could be a pocket camcorder or a compact camcorder.
My usage would be taking videos of my fish tank and family get togethers. I need the sound for family parties and for guitar lessons. Any ides?

I would look at JVC hard drive camcorders. They will make it easy to load videos to your computer and edit using computer software. All other video formats are obsolete for the home videographer now IMO.

The new Canon Rebel also offers HD video as well as great still photography performance. If you happen to be shopping in both departments, it may also be worth looking into.

Great question, I would love to know the answers as well (my camcorder is nearly 10 years old now).
But, I would warn about getting too excited over putting guitar work up on youtube. Youtube no longer allows it since the WMG takeover, and are going through and muting any music (including original works by users) that is not an authorized WMG recording. How long it takes is anyones guess. About 50% of mine are gone, and as soon as it happens once, it really cascades, as your account gets flagged.

I would only do the guitar videos for me and family.

Well I bought a Canon Vixia HF200 at Brandsmart USA and I'm in the process of reading the manual. It's only 186 pages! I feel I'll have a degree in photography after I'm done.;D
The camcorder is pretty neat, it's so small and powerful. It's run on a 16GB SDHC card similar to the card used on digital camera's but a lot more storage space. It wasn't cheap at $548.88 but after reading many reviews on all types of camcorders I decided on this one. Anyway as soon as I make some video's of my fish tank and upload them to youtube.com and post the link.:cheesy:

I brought the Canon back as I was having problems with the software. As it turned out the real problem was my desktop monitor is in standard definition (4:3) and the high definition software called for 1920 x 1080 resolution. When I changed the definition to 1920 x 1080 my screen cut in half I got frustrated as the software wouldn't upload the video. I am left with one of two options; I can get a standard definition camcorder or I can use my high definition laptop which is newer with wide screen and loaded with 4 GB of memory. My desktop only had 1 gb of memory which fell below the necessary 1.5 GB needed. I believe I'll probably go with the laptop. The way I look at it with most all of the TV's being sold are in high definition it just makes better sense to go with the the future.

Now as to what camcorder to go with? That is a delemma as I'm getting deeper in knowledge of high definition camcorders. I still like the Canon but I'm liking the Sony HDR-CX500V as the price comes down on this beauty it's looking better and better. MSRP $1099, online price $749. The Sony has better software to work with and this camera is state of the art with 32GB flash memory imbedded and the ability to add up to 16GB from an SD/SDHC card which means that there are no moving parts inside to worry about. I'll post the Camera I purchase as soon as I get one. The holidays are approaching and there will be ample times to use the camcorder.

I just bought a sony dcr sr 60 and love it. Its not HD, just dont think home movies should be in high def it takes away the whole home movie effect for me. But it has amazing picture and the super night shot is way cool. The software it comes with is awesome too, you can freeze frame and grabe a frame use it for a picture, just alot of great features.

Well I bought the Sony HDR-CX500V. I really liked the three way stabilization. It comes with a GPS which is kind of useless for me now but it might help when I loan it to a family member who is going on a vacation out of town. It has night shot and it has great low lighting ability.
