what is that on the top of the water???

I just watched the video in your other post about your skimmer. from that video I dont think you have anything to worry about with surface film. once your skimmer breaks in and you get the surface water moving good, then that film will disappear.

 

hi thanks for the info.the film on top of the water is not thick it just looks like a chemical film in there.there are no chemicals in there tho.i will see how it goes

 

ive been looking around and i think the stuff on the water surface is the organics that have come out of the sand and rock.so with the help of the skimmer and by the time it has cycled it should have gone.ill be doing a big water change once the cycle has finished anyway so fingers crossed.

 

use a powerhead to agitate the surface a bit... since you just started, it will eventually go away... probably very small particles of dust/ sand and/or biofilm from newly added rock.

 

i have 2 powerheads going 1 facing the top which is agitating the water well and one facing the middle ish. can i have both facing the surface till the stuff goes away or shall i leave it as it is?
