Honestly, technology allows easier tasks to be completed more efficiently. The computer doesn't allow you to know less; it requires a marginal amount more knowledge, but the benefit is extremely large. There's a huge initial investment by the inventor, with exponential gains as the lower knowledge requirements for usage allow for the specialization of labor. People only remember, and can utilize, a fraction of what they learn over a lifetime. Making a car simple so that a person only needs to know how to operate the steering wheel and pedals instead of knowing how to build an entire car from scratch allows for serious memory savings, and the potential for that memory and processing power to be used on other subjects.

That's the point of technology - turn a relatively small investment into a large benefit.

OP say they don't like technology? What about the lighting we use to keep our tanks running?

What about posting up on a internet forum to a bunch of folks he/she will never meet for the pure entertainment of sharing his/her thoughts? Oh the decadence!

I was over at my girlfriends house and she was giving a horse riding lesson to a young girl. The girls little brother was in the house with my girlfriends brother( Chase) and I. Chase noticed the young girl talking on a cell phone and asked her brother "Your sister has a cell phone?" To which the kid replied "Yeah, she is seven." He said it like it was obvious she should have one.

I got my first cell phone at 17, after I had my license and my own car.

Ya, they were pretty wealthy, but then the branch got struck by lightening hence the fact I couldn't even have a Pong game.

Oh ya.... and when I grew up.... the Sears catalog WAS the internet. The worlds shopping at your fingertips.... if it was not in the catalog... it did not exist. When the new one came out it was a big deal and I was be up for days dreaming of walkie talkies, go carts, and a new transistor radio.

Remember when the vice grip came out?

Ok neither do I... but I did read (in a book actually) it was invented by an employee of Sears who sold the idea for $20. He did manage to win a court battle for a lot large sum of money after his tool made sears millions though.

    on a serious note

my daughters had mobile phones as soon as they hit their teens
    2 reasons for this

1 ) so that they could contact us quickly if the need arose? which it never did thankfully
    2) so they could irritate the heck out of me by constantly texting people whilst I was talking to them
