Just out of curiosity, people change water weekly or 2 weeks, but what happens if you dont change for like...i dont know month or 2?

Will everything in the tank die? WHat will happen?

thats kind of a hard question i guess it would depend on how well maintained and clean u keep ur tank and equipment

oh nothing really. if your tank is not new and you have a good filtration system you should be ok..
i dont really do water changes at all. unless my params arent nothing but perfect.

I haven't done a water change in 2 months as I'm dialing in my carbon dosing. All I add in is kalk in the top off water, and trace / iodine once a week and all is great.

A water change is one of the best things you can do for your tank. In addition to maintaining stable water conditions, a water change offers numerous benefits.
In addition to "the best solution is dillution of pollution" which occurs when we remove tank water and replace it with clean, new water, there are other advantages such as...

removal of dissolved organics/yellowish tint to your water(Gelbstoff)-carbon also helps
take the test to determine if your water is yellow
take a piece of white paper...place it on one side of your tank and view the paper from the other side of your tank, if the paper looks yellow.brown, tan, you have dissolved organics(Tangster came up with this great test, by the way). Dissolved organics decrease the amount of benefical light reaching your livestock.

helps to replenish vital trace minerals, vitamins, salts and buffers that can quickly become depleted through respiration, carbon dosing, efficient skimming and evaporation(gas/chemical reactions)

helps to add oxygen rich water and replace carbon dioxide laden water from your tank

gets you in a nice rhythm and regimine to where doing a weekly water change gets you in a frame of mind to test water parameters, clean skimmers, glass and light covers etc. and inspect your tank and livestock.

aids in the reduction of phosphates and nitrates(nutrients) IN YOUR WATER.

less stressful and allows for less complication and negative reactions and outcomes(human error). You can perform a water change replenishing and replacing less water than if doing a water change over longer time intervals. A 5-10% water change weekly is less stressful and proportionally less likely to pose problems due to human error and other variables.

weekly water changes enable one to do a water change of lesser water volume than by doing a water change bi-weekly or less likely than that!

many advanced aquarists and experienced professionals in the field also rely and agree on this practice

This is it in a nut shell...
believe me when I say this...weekly water changes are effective, beneficial and a pertinent part of maintaining a successful marine biotope!!!!!!
You guys out there that say that your tank and its inhabitants are doing well without performing weekly water changes...
    Think about it
Just think what performing a less sporadic water change can do for you and your livestock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Hope this helps!!!!...

i havent done them in 7 months. but i also have bad water params because i havent changed my filter cartridges for about two. so now im in a pickle till i get them down. as long as you change your filter cartridges ytou should be fine.
